Peter Averi plays the magnificent pipe organ at Temple Square, Salt Lake City

Believed to be the first ever recording featuring both the famous Salt Lake City Tabernacle organ and the classically-voiced Assembly Hall organ. As many will know, the Salt Lake City Tabernacle organ is counted amongst the world's top organs - with only a chosen few organists being granted access to it. Peter Averi has been so honoured on several occasions and has even been invited to perform there in live concerts. Peter is well known here in New Zealand as an organist, conductor, music judge, broadcaster, and for his music ability generally (not just in organ circles). He is heard frequently on both National Radio and Concert FM.
This CD includes very approachable music - including some very popular organ items. The accompanying booklet provides full details on the music and includes full specifications of the two organs. This is not overly serious repertoire and has been chosen to showcase the two magnificent organs. Tracks included are:

PETER AVERI has enjoyed a career as an organist for over 50 years, in addition to his principal profession as a broadcaster, arts administrator and musical adjudicator. From 1946 he was organist and choirmaster of several churches in Wellington, Auckland and Sydney. He has given many recitals in New Zealand and Australia, and most notably in the USA, where from 1985 to 1997 he performed frequently in the Temple Square Concert Series in Salt Lake City, Utah. For many years he was Musical Director of the Wellington Gilbert & Sullivan Society and he also conducted numerous opera productions for other organisations. He has also performed with many choirs, soloists and orchestras as organ soloist, accompanist and conductor. His career in Broadcasting included 12 years as concert manager of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. After retiring from that position in 1987 he became Artistic Director and a Board Member of Wellington City Opera for 9 years. Peter has always had a special interest in the development of young musicians and for many years has been an adjudicator for several organisations, including the National Youth Orchestra, Mobil Song Quest, Caltex Opera Scholarships, and Television Young Musician's Competitions. Internationally, he has been on the jury of the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition on two occasions and the Canadian National Music Competition. Peter was Administrator of the International Vocal School in Utah and also devised and directed the Lexus New Zealand International Violin Competition for the 1992 New Zealand International Festival of the Arts. This album has been compiled from recordings made during live public performances at Temple Square between 1985 and 1997.
