“live”at the Rainmaker Two crowded, exciting evenings were the springboard for this unique album. The venue was the famed Rainmaker Hotel in Pago Pago, American Samoa. The big circular dining room there was sumptuously decorated, the stage beautifully framed in characteristically Samoan ornaments, flowers and greenery. Well-known already from their recordings, the Five Stars, from Auckland, New Zealand, knew they could expect keen audiences in Pago Pago, and they weren’t disappointed. Anticipation ran high, the atmosphere was tense, and when the Five Stars took the stage and began to play the response was joyous and immediate. So began two remarkable evenings of Samoan music in the Five Stars style... This recording presents the highlights of those concerts at the Rainmaker, a mixture of old songs and new from the Five Stars, captured in two unique and memorable occasions.
The Five Stars are Alofa Afoa Tu’uga (leader and lead guitar), his brothers Mona Afoa (drums), Uili Afoa (vocal), and their relatives Faifua Faatoe (rhythm guitar) and Uili Misa (bass Guitar). The group is managed by the father of the three brothers, Afoa Tu’uga. (Mona is obscured in the cover photo).
