WAY DOWN SOUTH - HAMILTON COUNTY BLUEGRASS BAND
Hamilton County Bluegrass Band released their latest album WAY DOWN SOUTH on their 2008 US Tour.
The Hamilton County Bluegrass Band has been honoured to receive an invitation from the International Bluegrass Music Museum to represent New Zealand at their annual River Of Music Party (ROMP) in June 2008, at Owensboro, Kentucky, USA.
Bluegrass veterans the Hamilton County Bluegrass Band went into Dudley Studio, Hamilton, over Easter Weekend 2008 to record their latest album Way Down South for the Kiwi Pacific Records label.
IBMM have sought to recognise the contributions that bands from throughout the USA and many foreign countries have made to bluegrass music, and have established a three-day festival to celebrate these bands. New Zealand ’s Hamilton County Bluegrass Band have been selected for their contributions to international bluegrass music over the 40 years that they have been playing, and for continuing to further the development of bluegrass music in New Zealand.

HAMILTON COUNTY BLUEGRASS BAND - WAY DOWN SOUTH - Kiwi Pacific Records SLC-267. I first encountered the Hamilton County Bluegrass band at a bluegrass festival in Berryville, Va, back in 1972. Now almost four decades later, Colleen (fiddle and vocals) and Paul (banjo and vocals) Trenwith are still major players on thee international bluegrass scene. Their latest musical offering brings us 13 performances featuring standards such as the Dillards “Is A Time” and the pop favorite " It Doesn’t Matter Anymore”. What is especially exciting about this collection is the presence of wealth of original material. Included are several instrumentals including ‘Banjo Rag”, Colleen's fiddle tune “The 8th Of February," and “Kentucky Romp," with commemorates their appearance at the River Of Music Party (POMP) in Owensboro, Ky. Two special moments are encountered on “Town And Country" which is a whimsical examination of country music and the title song which concerns a picker whose home is really way down south, south in New Zealand. "Way Down South" is bluegrass music at its very best, and it is good to see that after all these years, The Hamilton County Bluegrass Band is still going as strong as ever.
